A MESSAGE FROM NEWFILMMAKERS LOS ANGELES "After finishing my first feature film in 2001, I applied to various film festivals in the hope of getting my film screened. The first one to reply was the NewFilmmakers in New York. They screened my film a month after the tragedy of 9/11. Contrary to my expectations, people came out and shared with me the joy of seeing my film on the big screen for the first time. "It was an unforgettable experience and from there, it propelled my film to other festivals and gave me a shot to make my second feature and actually try to make my dreams come true. "It would not have been possible without the NewFilmmakers New York. Three years later and I am very honored and humbled to be named Program Director of the New Filmmakers Los Angeles. "NFLA is here to honor the undying tradition of independent film. It directly caters to the upstart filmmakers with their wondrous and daring visions. It is a place to be different, to be adventurous, to be radical, to be against the norm, and to destroy the status quo. I encourage everyone to be a part of The Series whether as a filmmaker, an actor, or just a viewer. You might see films that will affect your life. You might see yourself in them. More importantly, it might make you realize who you really are. It is my fervent hope that The Series makes you want to pick up that camera, write that script, or just support independent cinema. "Supporting NFLA will provide a venue to the emerging filmmakers for them to share their expressive works with all of us and make them believe that they have something to offer the world of cinema. I am proof of that. Christopher
