Plastic Flowers Never Die (Roxanne Varzi-Director)

Plastic Flowers Never Die is an experimental documentary film essay
about the culture of martyrdom and mourning surrounding the Iran-Iraq
war (1980 1989).  The war was one of the longest and bloodiest in the
history of the past century, and is rarely addressed in books or films
outside of the Iranian government paradigm.  This film explores ways in
which the culture of martyrdom has affected every day life in Tehran.
It was shot in Iran, and uses archival footage from the war.  The film
not only addresses the impact of the war for Iranians living in Iran,
but the impossibility of coming to terms with the war for the Iranians
who are abroad.

Call of Duty (Jackie Paul-Director)

The idea for this film came about when my best friend from high school came home, four years later with stories and videos that he was happy to share, about his time in Iraq.  It startled me, and I felt a need to share his story with people who were distant from the war, like myself.  I asked him for his videos and permission to record one of our typical phone conversations.  His material along with material gathered by a Coast Guard soldier who went to Afghanistan, became the foundation of the short documentary, Call of Duty.

"Not Your Average High School Production"
Opening Night follows the backstage hi-jinks and onstage catastrophe of a oddball high school theater production.  The cast of strange characters is lead by overzealous stage "momager" Dina Lynn, her "protege" daughter Priscilla ("Prissy") and the frustrated Ms. Cableknit.  The disastrous opening night of the play is set off by one hilarious event after another and is concluded with an ending you won't soon forget.
