10:30 / Narrative / Digital / USA / 2006 / English

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR: DEREK VELEZ PARTRIDGE was born in Astoria, New York and at 16 he moved to New Mexico where he wrote poetry, became an artist, learning the ancient style of pottery with the Pueblo Indians, who provided him with a life lesson he will not soon forgetten: “Surrender to your work and become a medium for the art.” Following this philosophy, at 20, Derek moved to Santa Monica, California and attended the Stella Adler Actor Conservatory and portrayed minor roles in films.

In 1993, he produced a short film “The Last Chance Café” in which he was the lead actor. Soon after, he completed another short, “The Power Game” and then directed his first Feature Film “No Deposit, No Return,” a multi-award winning film. Because Derek has always struggled with his diverse nationality (Greek/ Puerto-Rican descent), he chose to channel his frustration into his medium of filmmaking. An example of this is “Officer LaJara” a period piece following the events in 1969’s Spanish Harlem based on the history of the Young Lords Party. He plans to have this film in production after he completes his present film “Dying to Survive.” His his film company, Vista Clara Productions, whose literal translation is “"Clear View,"” embraces this mantra in its projects seeking to create films that are entertaining and thought-provoking.
