Henry Hardy has returned home from an urban street-life, one which is saturated with drug abuse and prostitution where he learns to believe that all human intentions are essentially fueled by selfish motives. He comes home in hopes to redeem himself with his family. He soon begins to suspect a family friend in having evil intentions towards his young, naive sister and aloof mother. Does his past give him insight into the dark and predatory truths of the human soul, or does he simply project his own twisted perspective onto the good intentions of others?

9:30 NEWFILMMAKERS SECOND FEATURE PRESENTATION

Michael Sexton & Rob Fruchtman SO CLOSE (2007, 72 Minutes, Video)

When was the first time?" A simple question on a bureaucratic form in a nondescript waiting room jolts Claire - and five strangers sitting nearby become the characters in her recollection of her turbulent marriage. Adapted from a stage play, SO CLOSE mixes theatrical, documentary and narrative film techniques to create a unique stream-of-consciousness storytelling style. Claire's story is a common one: raised in a strict home, meeting 16-year-old Joey when she is 14, falling in love. But their dream romance quickly turns into a nightmare when she gets pregnant and is kicked out of her house; they spiral into years of physical abuse, alcoholism and despair.
