NewFilmmakers is New York’s longest running and most popular screening series.
The NewFilmmakers Screening Series selects films and videos often overlooked by traditional film festivals. NewFilmmakers NY screens every week and sometimes more at Anthology Film Archives and usually has its Documentary Series at 6:00, Short Film Program at 7:00, and Feature Presentations at 8:00. The NewFilmmakers Series began in 1998 and over the past eighteen teen years has screened over 800 feature and 2,500 short films. In 2000 we brought the Havana Film Festival to New York and 2002 we started NewFilmmakers Los Angeles. Many well-known shorts and features including Blair Witch and Too Much Sleep have had their initial screenings at NewFilmmakers.
NewFilmmakers screens weekly in New York at Anthology Film Archives. Opened in 1970 by Jonas Mekas, Jerome Hill, P. Adams Sitney, Peter Kubelka, and Stan Brakhage, Anthology in its original conception was a showcase for the Essential Cinema Repertory collection. An ambitious attempt to define the art of cinema by means of a selection of films which would screen continuously, the Essential Cinema collection was intended to encourage the study of the medium’s masterworks as works of art rather than disposable entertainment, making Anthology the first museum devoted to film as an art form. The project was never completed, but even in its unfinished state it represented an uncompromising critical overview of cinema’s history, and remains a crucial part of Anthology’s exhibition program.
NewFilmmakers LA now screens monthly at the AT&T Center in Hollywood. Recently we began NewFilmmakersOnline, which gives filmmakers the opportunity to exhibit and distribute their films directly to the public. NewFilmmakers also programs the Soho House Screening Series in New York & Los Angeles. NewFilmmakers is sponsored by Barney Oldfield Management, Angelika Entertainment, Prophet Pictures, SXM, and H2O Distribution. NewFilmmakers has large audiences for most of our screenings and we have the most popular festival website in New York City (see the sidebar Alexa rating).

Files that do not meet these requirements will be conformed and transcoded for projection. A tutorial can be found HERE

NO Physical screeners (Blu-ray / DVD) will be accepted for projection
We recommend filmmakers make a backup available on the night of their screening.
Feature films delivered on DCP must include one copy on CRU drive and a non-DCP backup. All DCPs must be DCI compliant with drives formatted with EXT 2 or 3 file systems (single partition, master boot record). All DCPs must be unencrypted. H264 file backup copies must be provided within the deadline stated on the acceptance email. For 35mm film prints, we screen 24fps in aspect ratios of 1.37, 1.66, 1.85, or 2.39. We accept sound formats of mono, stereo and Dolby 5.1. Please note that these specifications are subject to change at any time. If your film is accepted into the Festival, we will provide you with the most up-to-date exhibition specs and deadlines for delivery of your master at that time.
